DJ Q&A: Dennis Cruz
We are thrilled to have your FIRST San Francisco play at Halcyon this Friday! You have been on our DJ WISH LIST all year! Where have you been all our lives?
Im so excited to play this Friday at Halcyon, I’ve heard many good things! I’ve been producing a lot in the studio, also i just finished a mini tour in Brazil before coming to the States where I played some amazing events. I lived in Ibiza over the summer and now back based in my home city of Madrid.
Big-ups for winning Best Producer at the DJ AWARDS in Ibiza this year! Which of your tracks are you most proud of?
Thank you so much, if I have to choose one it will be “El Agua” as for me, it’s my best track…
What’s it like when you hear someone like Capriati, Carola or Jamie Jones play one of your tracks?
I’m grateful to receive the support from these artists, this motivates me and makes me work harder which is always a good thing for anyone working in any industry!
You have racked up so many awards and accolades of late, it’s staggering! Where are you finding inspiration for your sound?
Yes I can’t yet believe all this support, regarding the inspiration sometimes I will have loads of inspiration and can make a track in just one day, but other times I can spend a whole day trying and nothing good will come of it, but I find inspiration in all genres of music from hip hop, funky and also movies.
When we think of tech-house, we think of you! What do you think defines the genre and/or why do you love it so much?
I love it, for me tech house is all-out the groove! As the name says is a mix between house and techno, not so hard as techno with less bpm so you can add more groove like you have in house. I think it’s the perfect party genre!
Anything special you are looking forward to doing on your first San Francisco visit?
Well, I can’t wait to visit San Francisco, I think everything is amazing there, the golden gate, the pier, the center… but I’m open to get some recommendations from you guys too and discover more of the city, see you guys on the floor!
