DJ Q&A: Chris Malinchak
We catch up with consummate New Yorker and man about town CHRIS MALINCHAK for a little random Q&A before his first Halcyon play Friday October 4th.
Chris, you’ve been a fixture in nightclubs for quite some time. If you were to open a club anywhere in the world where would it be?
NYC Baby! No place like home….especially when it’s NY.
That’s what we thought you’d say! And couldn’t agree more. The energy of NYC is unrivaled! If you weren’t a DJ what would you be?
I have no idea.
Hahaha well amazing that you’ve found your true calling! What artist would you most like to collaborate with?
Part of the joy is the surprise. I prefer to know nothing about the person in the room I’m walking into.
Very adventurous! What’s the most used piece of gear in your studio?
The piano.
I think we knew that… What’s the one item you can’t travel without?
Earplugs.
Biggest inspiration, musically or other wise.
Being outside on my bike at night.
A true night crawler you are! What was your breakthrough moment and what was/will be your holy shit I made it moment?
So Good To Me. Being brought over to London when it happened and hearing it everywhere.
That was (and still is) one of our favorite songs of all time. Advice for aspiring DJs?
Do it every day.
Dedication! If you could be stuck forever in one decade of music which would it be?
90s.
What is the song that always drags your ass onto the dance floor?
I was recently on a rooftop here in the city when the intro to Alicia Myers “I Want To Thank You” got me up.
Sweet and funky. We like it. Track you wish you wrote?
There isn’t one.
Favorite thing to order room service?
Coffee. Cream and sugar.
What are you most excited about for playing Halcyon?
I love playing a place for the first time. And San Francisco always feels so good!
Thank so much and we can’t wait to see you on the dance floor at Halcyon!
