DJ Q&A: CID
We have CID back this month and can’t wait to see what he has planned for his Halcyon return!
CID you literally blew our minds the last time you played for us! We were not expecting that insane underground set you threw down!
Thanks! I’ve always been more into the underground scene and it’s really influenced my music. I have been itching to push my sound more in that direction for some time and when I got the chance to play Halcyon I knew it would be the perfect place to showcase what I wanted to do. On top of that, on my opinion San Francisco has one of the best music scenes in the world.. Everyone is so open minded and educated about dance music that it really allowed me take my set where I wanted too.
Well you nailed it! The crowd went absolutely wild! You’ve been dropping some dope music lately. The BAD FOR ME EP and the CHROMEO remix are just two in a long progression of recent releases. What has inspired you to pound out all these tunes?
For me, 2018 has been a transitional year, pushing my music little by little more towards the Housier club sound I want to play. I’ve really set out to release as much music as possible with consistent releases every month.
Awesome! And you just released a new single with Anabel Englund. How did that come about?
I am a huge Hot Creations, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss fan and because of that Anabel has been on my radar for some time now. She was in New York for a show a little over a year ago, and a mutual friend introduced us. The next day, we got in the studio and made “Use Me Up”. She’s such an incredible talent, she really understand dance music and her soulful voice works perfectly over it.
That’s so exciting! We can’t wait to hear it on our sound system! Your tour schedule has been crazy as well. You recently toured Japan. That must have been wild! What was the coolest thing you experienced while there?
Tokyo is such an amazing city! There is this incredible balance between its historic culture, but at the same time it is this forward thinking almost futuristic city. It’s really inspiring to just walk around and observe the way the city and its people move. The coolest, most ridiculous thing I experienced there was definitely Robot Restaurant. It’s the most ADD thing I’ve ever watched but it’s so fun and a must see. Also, the food is incredible, I LOVE sushi, so walking around the Tsukiji fish market and than eating
at one of the sushi restaurants there was a highlight.
We hear there are huge crowds in Japan. What’s the largest crowd you’ve played before? What was that like?
Biggest crowd I’ve gotten a chance to play was last year at EDC Las Vegas on the Kinetic Field stage. I don’t know the exact number, but it was definitely a lot of people! Haha! It’s a weird thing, to be honest, I always just get lost in the music and it doesn’t really matter if it’s 50 people or 50,000, I always want to play the best set I can.
You also played in beautiful Bali. How was the scene there?
Bali has a great club scene, there’s just such a good vibe on the island and the crowds really bring that energy with them when they party. The last time i was there I had an amazing time playing at Sky Garden. The club is insane, they have been around for 10+ years and really understand club culture and draw a great crowd
Hopefully you got a little R&R while there. You definitely deserve it!
We need a little R&R prior to your Halcyon show! We’re afraid of what you’re going to do to that room! The roof may come off!
I really can’t wait to be back! Last year was a huge highlight for me and I’m itching to get back in that room!
We are so happy to hear that! Your show was a highlight for us too! Don’t miss the chance to see CID take the roof off at Halcyon Saturday June 16th
