In this months DJ Q&A Prok + Fitch tell us what inspires a classic remix and to duo or not to duo! Catch these two amazing talents February 10!
Prok and Fitch, we are thrilled to host you at Halcyon SF! We have a thing for duos and you’re one of our faves!We love your LA LA LAND remix… Who’s idea was it to remix such an iconic track? What was the inspiration?
Thank you. In the past we’ve remixed a fair few classic records, so we’ve been a little reluctant over the past two years on that side of things. That was until Curtis said he’d love us one day to remix “La La Land”, mutually it was probably one of our favourite records to date so we jumped at the opportunity.
When we started discussing ideas, we had a good listen to previous remixes and bootlegs out there as we wanted todo something fresh that will stand the test of the time, staying away from fady trends, so we decided to give our remix a housey vibe. In complete comparison to “Sheeple” our Green Velvet Collaboration this took a long long time to finish, from the first playable version to handing in the master it took four months, playing it out and tweaking every version. For us our main priority is that any of our productions work on the dance floor.
You guys are on tour so much together! Chus & Ceballos once said the best thing about touring as a duo is you always have someone with you. They also said the worst thing about touring as a duo is you always have someone with you! We though that was hilarious!
Ha ha they’re bang on! We’re so fortunate to travel the world doing what we love, and sharing it with someone makes it even better. We don’t live in each other’s pockets, quite often doing our own thing, but having someone you get on well & know well with you is an absolute bonus.
When you’re on tour, what is the one thing you always agree on?
Food 100%, it’s pretty much our main priority, we spend some serious time looking for local gems and getting stuck in.
What do you always disagree on?
On the rare time we share a room it’s definitely the room temperature, Ben is a freak and loves a very cold room, windows open even in a ski resort in the winter. James is the opposite he prefers a temperature similar to a nursing home, we always strike a balance somewhere in between the two.
Prok, if you weren’t with Fitch, what DJ would you choose as your mate? Why?
Steve Mac, he’s a serious talent & a great guy. Loves letting loose and having a good time, I’m not sure how productive it would be mind.
Fitch, if you weren’t with Prok, who would you choose? Why?
One of my best friends Rich, one half of the techno duo Spektre. There’s always been chemistry when we’ve messed around in the studio and our musical tastes are very similar despite the different music we currently produce.
Who is the one American you would love to meet?
James: Mickey Rourke, I reckon he’s got some stories to tell over a bottle of sambuca or 2!
Ben: Out on the tare with Tiger Woods. I’m a bit of a closet golf fan & what he’s done for the game will never happen again. By the sounds of things he quite likes a party too.
